2023 By-Election Results: SP Leading in Ghosi, BJP Ahead in 3 Seats

New Delhi, September 8, 2023: The results of the by-elections held in seven assembly seats in six states have started coming in. In the Ghosi seat of Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party's Sudhakar Singh is leading. There is also good news for the BJP. The party has taken a lead in the Dhanpur, Bageshwar and Dhupguri seats.

These by-elections are seen as a major test for the opposition alliance INDIA. They are also likely to have an impact on the upcoming state assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Sudhakar Singh of SP leading in Ghosi

In the Ghosi seat of Mau district of Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party's Sudhakar Singh is leading. He is leading by over 1,000 votes. BJP's Dara Singh Chauhan is in second place.

The by-election in Ghosi became necessary because the former SP MLA Ramapati Ramji Singh passed away.

BJP leads in 3 seats

There is also good news for the BJP. The party has taken a lead in the Dhanpur, Bageshwar and Dhupguri seats.

In the Dhanpur seat, BJP's Taufazul Hussain is leading by over 1,500 votes. CPI(M)'s Mijaan Hussain is in second place.

In the Bageshwar seat, BJP's Bindu Debnath is leading by over 1,000 votes. Congress's Dalvir Singh is in second place.

In the Dhupguri seat, BJP's Deepjyoti Biswas is leading by over 500 votes. Congress's Sudhir Kumar is in second place.

Competition continues in remaining seats

In Kerala's Puthuppally seat, Congress's MV Sheeladharan is leading. BJP's SP Sudhakaran is in second place.

In Jharkhand's Dumri seat, INDIA alliance's Sandeep Yadav is leading by over 500 votes. BJP's Ramesh Chaudhary is in second place.

In Tripura's Boxanagar seat, BJP's Taufazul Hussain is leading by over 1,000 votes. CPI(M)'s Mijaan Hussain is in second place.

In the Dhanpur seat, BJP's Taufazul Hussain is leading by over 1,500 votes. CPI(M)'s Mijaan Hussain is in second place.
